Joseph E. Aoun, a leader in higher education policy and a renowned scholar in linguistics, is the seventh President of Northeastern University.
President Aoun has strategically aligned the University’s research enterprise with three global imperatives—health, security, and sustainability. Northeastern’s faculty focus on interdisciplinary research, entrepreneurship, and transforming academic research into commercial solutions for the world’s most pressing problems. During President Aoun’s tenure, the University has realized a 189 percent growth in external research funding, along with approximately 1,500 patent applications filed by faculty and students.

CELESTE HEADLEE is an award-winning journalist, professional speaker and author of We Need To Talk: How To Have Conversations That Matter, and Do Nothing: How to Break Away from Overworking, Overdoing, and Underliving. An expert in conversation, human nature, reclaiming common humanity and finding well-being, Headlee frequently provides insight on what is good for all humans and what is bad for us, focusing the best research in neuro and social science to increase understanding of how we relate with one another and can work together in beneficial ways in our workplaces, neighborhoods, communities and homes. She is a regular guest host on NPR and American Public Media, and a highly sought consultant, advising companies around the world on conversations about race, diversity and inclusion. She is the host of the Conferences for Women’s Women Amplified podcast. Her TEDx Talk sharing 10 ways to have a better conversation has over 23 million total views, and she serves as an advisory board member for ProCon.org and The Listen First Project. NAEEMAH ELIAS is a managing director in the talent marketplace, responsible for driving internal mobility at State Street. She recently pivoted from a decade in business continuity with a variety of roles including business continuity planner, director, compliance oversight, and risk oversight. Prior to joining State Street in 2010, Elias spent years as a professional actress. She toured with the American Repertory Theatre, helped to build Zeitgeist Stage Company, and performed in numerous local productions. For her performances, she was honored with an Elliott Norton award, IRNE award, and Best of Boston recognition. In addition to running presentation workshops and seminars, she provides individual coaching and mentorship in communication and executive presence. She has trained more than 3300 colleagues.
